So all the dry brown skin has pretty much “dropped off” the wound / site now; leaving a pink patch (or “continent” as one of Caitlin’s cousin exclaimed) there. It still looks quite fragile, so we’ll leave it for at least another week before we begin considering indulging in (one of) her favourite activities- the pool. But in all, there is no more open / exposed skin anymore.
So now I think we can start considering the other aspect from the healing of this accident- getting rid of the the scar.
I know some of you have suggested mederma and equivalents. Do you have anymore, or any experience with this and other brands, and how they have worked out for you? Would appreciate any(more) suggestions…
While she is only 4, and also that I am her father, there will be a time in her life where she’d like to be able to wear a short skirt; or at least that I will (have to) allow her to! I wouldn’t want my daughter (even if it wasn’t Caitlin) to be weary of something like this and feel inhibited from enjoying her young adult life….

I have taken a pic of Caitlin’s thigh last night, with all the dried brown bits gone. Will put it up soon.
I spotted the Mederma at the local Guardian pharmacy, it’s not cheap. For 20g its something like RM40-ish.
Will need to talk to someone / research more on the use of these scar-reducing agents. Probably best to bring Caitlin along to show the site; can’t leave it too long either.
Got a look at the wound on my darling niece, my heart skipped a bit and then some. Like I said earlier such a brave little girl and even when queried about it, she puts on a brave front and says she is alright. Adorable wonder she is. I admit it has been quite a bit since I last saw her (during the Ti-Ti’s 1st birthday bash) and when she waved, called me and grabbed my hand it made me so fuzzy all over. Since she is young I am sure the wound (it will not be a SCAR) will heal very nicely. Take heart Daddee. Let me check with the pharmacist in Guardian and get some insight on Mederma for you.
I have bought a small tube of Mederma, and have started applying it, at least 3 times a day (directions say 4 times). Started this on the eve of Chinese New Year.
The directions did say for “new scars” that this ought to be applied for 3-4 months, and for “old” scars, up to 6 months and beyond.
Too early to tell its effectiveness….
Now it is March 2011 already. Does Merdema work????
To a large extent- yes.
If you didn’t know where to look (for the very faint scar) you wouldn’t even know it was there.
I don’t know if her age had anything to do with it; ie, whether this will be as effective on adults.
