Makeshift child proofing the kitchen

Here’s today’s short post direct from my iPhone..

“Hands many many” is the (local?) Chinese vernacular for kids who must touch everything they see..

I think we have one (in the making) in our household… See?

  1. Oh, he is toddling around now! Oh, in no time he will be running after his sister!!!

    Two in tow makes a very tired daddee!

  2. Haha!
    Actually, he is already “running” after his sister in the walker!

    It’s very warming to see his sister coming-from-the-heart wants to play and delight her little brother. She knows he likes to follow her, and thus runs around him from wall to wall playing with him, getting him to “zoom” (as she calls it) towards her!

    And he does seem to actually be interested in his sister too; always looking out for her, to “zoom” towards her, or crawling towards her when she is near.

  3. I think it is adorable and adventurous of our young JL to be curious of his surroundings. He is trying to figure what is what. Just ensure he keeps his fingers from being squashed between his walker and the cupboard or things he touched.

    Again… from nagging yeye… make sure while he is having fun chasing the sister on his walker that he or the wheels does not trip and both flip or go flying!

    Supervision is key!!!

  4. Haha… “hand many many”! My boy also started ransacking the cabinets and drawers… *sigh*

  5. Hi Ryan Mami,

    While Caleb is our second kid, we still have not invested in any child-proof things, such as those which tie-lock drawers, powerpoint protectors, etc.

    Mainly ‘cos our first kid Caitlin has been quite good in listening to our heeds of what is dangerous and avoid… I just hope this hands-many-many one will also be “obedient” this way!

  6. Ahhh… this is the really fun stage.

    Honestly, not meaning to dampen your hope (but I doubt this boy will be as good as his sister), boys will be boys. And all is still pretty much “under control” for now.
    The “under control” diminishes as they begin to grow
    – strong and skilled enough to open the door by themselves;
    – tall enough to just reach for anything that’s placed on the dining table;
    – strong enough to carry a chair / stool to climb for something beyond their reach;
    – knows where the keys are kept and can operate a simple key in the keyhole to “freedom”!!

    You know it when each “barrier” is broken and there are more grounds to cover to keep them safe.

    The only thing we got were powerpoint protectors (still on), and safety gates for the stairs, top and bottom, which we now have removed and would have to get them out again in less than a year’s time…

    Good luck.
