A common understanding

She props herself up on her elbows, on the bed, peering over the mini-mountains of pillows. In this light I can just make out the outline of her japanese doll haircut, and her eyebrows. She is looking at me.

I am on the floor, on the mattress. One hand supporting myself sitting up, the other patting his back, ensuring I maintained the rhythm from earlier in the night.

She props herself higher now, on her hands, to get a better angle of what’s beneath her eye level. I can see she turns her head to look at her younger brother, and then turns to look back at me. I look back at her.

He is motionless. Rhythm still maintained.

She nods at me a few nods. I nod back at her, bigger head movements so that I know she sees it in this light. I am not sure- I thought I saw her lips pressed reassuringly as well while nodding.

She lies back down, hidden from my sight now by the pillows.

Only the whirring of the air-cond can be heard throughout.

We shared the same objective, shared a common understanding. She deduced and understood that unspoken means to that end.

From earlier in the day.
I don’t know what Caitlin thought she was able to cook like this!

Thanks! If only she is as understanding / cooperative all the time!

But when she is, it’s a great feeling..

It’s really amazing how they can behave so maturely at times and really like a kid, as expected of their age, the next moment… There are times Micah really does behave so well in caring for his brother my heart really felt like it could burst.

That is why these are called “Kodak” moments. If it happens all the time, it would not make you treasure them. Girls have always had these connections to their fathers I guess. I believe you cultivated the relationship with Caitlin and there are just moments when a nod or a wink will suffice……
