School’s out!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

So it’s the school holidays, the roads are clear-ish, the office is somewhat quiet, the holiday spots are booked out.

I think Caitlin’s going to be somewhat bored as well these coming weeks. I have contemplated going on a quick domestic trip, but Hot Mummee can’t take the time off (I did think of going without her; HOW COULD YOU you say?). So instead, I may decide just to take a day or two off work and be with her: go out, go for swims (since her cough’s gone, and she’s been nagging wanting to continue), etc. Weekends are pretty much booked out with adult activities that the kids have work around, and thus can’t do much with them.

It’s strange to now be on this side; where I am somewhat excited about school holidays, but it’s not my holidays, when it used to be- still gotta go to work. To think about how to still keep them occupied / stimulated, to do stuff with them while they are free of the daily regiment for the coming weeks.

And by the way, after somewhat understanding what a school break means, Caitlin asked why then am I still going to work!

By the way, we had another parent-teacher meeting last weekend, just at the end of the term. Caitlin’s progress has been very encouraging. Not referring to her “report card”; which the school calls “progress report” instead, so as to deflect the attention and importance it otherwise gets, the verbal feedback from the teachers was already quite encouraging for me. The teachers were saying that Caitlin is a real chatterbox! She talks a lot during class, and even interrupts the teachers by being nosey: “Teacher, you didn’t answer so-and-so when she called you!”, “Teacher, so-and-so didn’t pick up their toys this morning!”, etc.

But as was expected, she is doing okay in school, given that Caitlin on some weekends or public holidays have asked to go to school- she must be enjoying it. Given she started late this year, she’s caught up quite okay. She is learning her abc’s quite well, her motor-skills (a la colouring) has improved a lot, her spoken English is good. Areas of attention now are just her identifying words (ie, a bunch of letters, not just identifying individual letters) so that she can start reading, and her Mandarin still needs more practising (Daddee’s gotta start speaking to her with it more).

And Hot Mummee still retains this title, by the way :P

ohhh….sorry you couldn’t make it for the trip!Another time perhaps!

Maybe bring her to Sunway Lagoon or a day trip to PD or Malacca? I know of some parents who have done it alone…the day trips I mean.

Have a cheerie day off and loads of FUN with your little princess.

Yeah, thought of going back to Genting again, since she had a ball recently.

I am not too familiar with PD, so I don’t wanna risk getting lost, with her in tow what more!

Will think of doing something with her nonetheless…. thanks for the suggestion!

As I am SAHM, and Micah is just going to start school coming term, I am always on “holiday” :)

If it’s nothing too far off, you can always set a date and my boys, (probably their grandma) and I will be able to have a playdate with Caitlin. :)

    SMS me.

I can’t say I am complaining about the “clearish” sort of traffic. Getting to work is quite pleasant and less stressful during school holidays. Nowadays the kids are so lucky as parents DO spend time with them despite the fact that both parents are bringing back the bacon. They take leave, take them travelling, Sunway Lagoon, Genting Themepark etc. With the inflation rate and how things are just skyrocketing, my hats off to the ‘Daddy and Mommy Corporation’ and plain devotion to your kids. Not easy being a good Dad or Mom especially in the 21st century. By the way, to all devoted Dads who are reading or browsing through the blog, Happy Father’s Day!

Thanks Mei Ling! I know your mum and KooCher make it a point to visit my kids too during the (week)days.
