Labour day holiday outing…

So today, May 1st, is Labour Day. Caitlin felt like “going shopping.” So, we impromptu-ly agreed.

Not that she needed to buy anything; to her shopping is akin to walking around in a shopping centre or a supermarket. Admittedly since starting school she has not had much chance in doing the rounds like she used to with Grandma and Grandpa, and Hot Mummee and I “treasure” our weekends for not doing much; getting the R&R that is so looked forward to.

As with public holidays in Kuala Lumpur, the roads leading to 1Utama were dotted with red lights- car brake lights. This is a common sight on weekends and public holidays (as are all shopping centres, actually), rows of cars trying to jump queue and squeeze into the parking areas.

Upon seeing this, Grandma suggested we head towards Ikano instead. Unknown to me, there is a playground on the top floor that we could bring Caitlin to. So, we parked, got to the top floor, and Daddee conveniently became the chaperone whilst the ladies went about their shopping.

So I stayed to watch over Caitlin. There were gigantic versions of our air castle, the ones that are even have a slide; as well as playhouses and little rockers. If Daddee wasn’t as heavy I reckon I would be having more fun than Caitlin! Also, impromptu visit means no camera in hand :(

While watching over Caitlin and making sure she remained physically safe from all the climbing and sliding and rolling, there was a boy nearby, probably 5 years old, who managed to climb on top of a solid-plastic playhouse.

He squatted atop the roof of the playhouse, and declared that he is an owl; not really towards anyone in particular. He’s one of those kids who played “aloud”. So proud he was, that he was an owl. I couldn’t help myself and engaged in conversation with him.

So you are an owl?

Yes I AM!

And do you know what owls eat?

Worms! No.. birds eat worms… I could just see this turning over in his head: Owl is bird, bird eats worms, therefore owl eats worm too. Yes! Owl eats worms!

Oh noooo…..

??

Owls eat snakes and rats!

His face was all of surprise, disgust, I-made-a-wrong-choice all rolled into one!

Okay you had to be there!
