This weekend Caitlin will be turning 3 years old.
How time flies… I was just reflecting on this recently when we were planning the guest list. I can still remember the day she was born, but I cannot so easily remember some other details.
It took some effort to recall & picture Mummee’s confinement period- what she was wearing, what she could & couldn’t eat. Also, the “fullmoon” party, when Caitlin wasn’t walking yet & her antics, what tickled her / made her giggle, what few words she knew & how we’d be telling everyone when she’s learned a new basic word… Even something as recent as changing her diapers every night: Lifting her two legs with one hand & pulling the soiled one from under her, washing up, dousing talcum on her before taping her up (she’s only been toilet trained a few months ago) all seemed like a long-ago memories…
It seems I can only recall the happy moments. That’s not to say the other moments were not happy, just the happy ones are easily recalled.
Speaking of which, it’s been a while since I have done this: I gotta whip out my camera again like I used to.
I am missing those days already…. Sigh, 3 yrs old. Some may say “What, only 3 yrs old; mine is [x2, x3] yrs older..” What is this Daddee making so much noise about his kid turning only 3??..
Anyway.
We will be having a small party with close relatives & friends. Some of these are my friends whom I haven’t seen for a while. One of them was from school who had kids much earlier than I- he’s got 2 girls now; one who is likely Caitlin’s age, & the older one probably double that. Another is an ex workmate who has a boy under a year old- Mummee says she can’t picture him with a kid!
However, being the rather children-anti-social parents that we have inadvertently become due to work commitments, this is looking more like a gathering of adults than a toddler’s party. With Caitlin not having started school yet, she has no other friends to invite other than the one-&-only Mummee’s friend’s little girl. On Mummee’s side Caitlin is the first of that generation. On my side her nearest cousins are at least 10 years older & thus have very different interests (they are starting secondary schooling next year, in fact).
So understandably, I am hoping Caitlin will still enjoy her birthday since there aren’t likely to be games & very little playing. This is likely going to be a sit-down event- I can already feel a letdown of sorts coming….
I am tempted to invite some of you readers over with your kids.. but what would people think??

Happy birthday Caitlin! Alycia will be turning 4 yo in 2 weeks, how time flies! Have a wonderful bday celebration and snap lotsa pix and post them in your blog ok?
I have 2 kids and have thrown a total of 5 birthday parties. There were kids at all the parties, but mostly it felt like a gathering for the adults. Caitlin will not notice that the child adult ratio is not in her favor.
Have a great time.
Happy Birthday Caitlin!
Don’t worry about it not being her party with regards to the guests. To her, The most important will be the candle blowing and the PRESENTS!! And of course with her loved ones near. She will enjoy all the attention, I’m sure.
Caitlin thanks you ladies for your well wishes!
She also says not to worry, she will be sure she will have a good time even though there will be more grown-ups than little humans!
She says she will be looking forward to blowing the candles like Aunt Moomykin said, but doesn’t know anything about any surprise presents!
Happy Birthday to Caithlin, big girl liao and gonna be a good jie jie soon.
I can relate. I have 20 month old twins and have been thinking about what to do for their 2nd birthday. I am a stay home mom and as you can imagine we don’t get to the park or other places to meet kids on our own just yet. It’s usually when daddy can go to help keep up. It won’t be long, but they are still at that age where they don’t quite get I can’t be in 2 places! Anyway, Happy Birthday Caitlin! The long and short of it is, we will most likely be having an adult party as well and I think as long as our kids can go outside and make us chase them, they will have a blast!!!
